At the center of the mesmerizing rolling fields, dwelt a young shepherd. His existence was pure, and unsophisticated. His only responsibility was mainly to tend to his herd of sheep.

Their low murmuring and the whispering of the breezes across the lone tree on the mountaintop were his constant associates. Day after day, looking out for his responsibilities inculcated in him a notion of calm satisfaction.

However, there were the occasional moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would yearn for company. In one such instance because of sheer boredom, the shepherd boy orchestrated a mischievous plot.

Stories of predators hunting on sheep had long been circulating in the village. So, the boy decided to used this fear and played a joke on the townsfolk.

One morning he ran into the village yelling “Wolf! A wolf is preying on my website sheep!” The scared villagers ran up the hills to help but found nothing threatening.

The boy chuckled at the dilemma on their faces. This trick persisted for a few more days. However, one day, a real wolf actually charge at the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy ran for aid screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.

Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but managed to protect only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he returned to the town only to be met with a lesson on honesty and the consequences of crying wolf.

The tale of this shepherd boy has been handed down generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the value of honesty, the consequences of lying and the perils of false alarms. Moreover, it highlights how trust once broken, is hard to regain. It's a story as pertinent today as it was in the past.
